Ice storm hit me here in Missouri on Thursday and knocked out all the power in our town and a lot of the state. My power came back on Sunday night late.......That sucked! It was crazy....At night it was dead quiet except for the cracking of the tree limbs and then a big "CRASH" as they hit the ground!

Ha, it took me half an hour to walk through a 5 minutes way back home. But I love the crystalline world after the snow. And I love your third picture.

Wow, we really got shafted in the Twin cities...we got a dusting of snow and thats it. I was hoping for better photo ops. Oh well, looks like you got some prime shooting conditions (albeit a little icy and cold). I really like #5.

We had a light frost in Andros a couple of years ago - the kids thought it was snow and tried to scrape it off the car windshields to make snowballs :D

I love your first shot - I know it can't be much fun, but it sure is pretty.

Its amazing how helpless we all are when a major thing happens...like lose the electric!

There was one small area that had electric....Walmart, Burger King, Mcdonalds and a few small shops.....It took me an hour and a half to get through the Burger King line! I was really hungry I guess...

Memphis experienced that same thing in 1994. Our power was out about 18 hours. It was horrible trying to get gas or food or anything for that matter. Great pictures though!

Hi,

Four, seven & eight are awesome captures. I have never seen THAT much ice before. What a great day for photographing. Folks don't realise the weight of all that ice.

I read a report from Ontario Hydro (Electricity) that stated that the average mature tree standing 100 feet tall with no leaves can hold up to 80 tons of ice with a coverage of quarter of an inch.

Several years ago in Quebec Canada they had so much freezing rain that it brought down miles of electricity pylons. Apart from the cracking of limbs... did you hear the tinkling of the branches? They tell me it is like a million wind chimes in the right conditions.

Thanks for posting and if you have any more....

Cousin.

Another reason I live in the desert! Anyway #4 and #7 really have some depth and contrast.

Brrrrr. Every picture tells a story. We get a lot of ice where I'm at, so I know all about this number. I'll bet when you stood quiet in the dead silence you could hear a tree limb snap about every 5 minutes. Craaacccck! I like the closeup of the branch tips. /Dan

Yes, we had the same identical conditions in my localized area...90% of all trees lost 30% off the top...many just broke in half as well...the storm lasted 3 full days and we had no power, for 6 1/2 days...several out of state utilities rescue teams were in the area to get all the power back on...

It was a 40 year storm...

Your pictures look like mine, too...I shot 14 rolls of 35mm film with my Canon SLR...

Now, I'm the proud owner of three chain saws, 320 feet of 10,000 lb. test ratchet belts and chains...with the use of my Pick Up truck and 200 foot belts, I was able to bring down several trees prior to them falling on the utility lines...have enough firewood to last for many years...I don't even need it...

The bad thing is, there was hardly, no one to help another in need...Thank goodness the phone lines worked...

It's great that you could document this event...most out of the area people would have no clue...
