Well, Saturday was a first for me. I was at my local EBL basketball team as usual for our local paper but I was also covering the away side for their local daily paper. I contacted the away sides sports editor a few days before the game and they agreed to purchase images of their local players.

So Saturday evening was spent going to and fro from baseline to baseline trying to get something intresting other than the normal action shots.

Anyway, I failed to get anything other than the usual action (i.e. dunks, layups). Here is a few from the game.

Thanks Photodawg. I was pleased with the basketball, the soccer game I had earlier in the day was fustrating as hell. The focus on my 1D was going loopy, the play was well, not the best, and I was always in the wrong place.

Thanks.

I use a 1D MKI with a 50mm 1.8, you know the $100 lens. I love it.

I normally shoot manual at 1.8, 1/320, ISO 1000, pattern meetering mode. Sometimes I jump to ISO 1250 if the players are shifting and I need 1/400. I have not run these through any noise reduction software as the are primalary going to end up in the newspaper so the gain does not matter.

Those are some nice shots. Were you sitting when you took those shots?

I always sit whether it be on the baseline or side line. I move up and down the baseline but I generally return to between the free throw line and the 3 point line.
