I have a SD700, my computer is Win XP Service Pack 2
I installed the software just like the manual said, disconnect the webcam, install the program and THEN connect the camera.
When I connect the camera to the computer through the back USB port (actually I tried all ports), turn it on, the pop up in the right corner said camera found and then an Installer window pops up like usual whenever I plug a new device in (whether its a flashdrive or a webcam/printer,....)

But after it finished everything, I goto ZoomBrowser and it said Camera not Found. I went into my computer and there isn't a Canon icon or a Removable drive appear. I unplug and plug it back in again, the computer makes the "beep" sound which means it recognize a device is plug in but still...nothing happen.
The camera works fine at school when I plug it in, its just on my computer it wont work :(

can someone please help me with this problem? :(

The good news: I just went through the same thing with my SD800 and fixed it. The bad news: I don't have the exact steps any longer that I took to resolve the problem.

Here is what I did in general terms:
1. I emailed Canon support with a very similar description as you did here.
2. They replied with a fairly good list of 6-8 steps to verify/change. Most of these are Windows-service related, so it helps to be familiar with services.
3. If you are lucky, you will find the issue there. Unfortunately, their list did not solve my problem.
4. Next, I went into the Windows Event viewer and found that a service mentioned in step 2 was unable to start. It was pointing to an executable ([Something].exe) that was not there. I found that executable on a different computer, and copied it over to the troubled computer in the location the service was looking for it. Started the service, and whalla, problem fixed.

I am away from my home computer right now, so sorry I am being less than specific. Let me know if you need some more help after you get the list from Canon.

Mike

i emailed Canon support too and darn, we spend a good 5 days on solving my problem and they ended up telling me to ship the camera back vmad
i do remember the list they gave me though, is it the one where they say make sure WIA and SSDP are running? I checked those and they have already started
could you tell me what you did in Event Viewer to fix it? I went to the Event Viewer but i dont konw what to do with it :(
thank you for your help :)

Yes, I think that was the list I had as well. The problem with mine was that the "Canon Access Library 8" service could not start. It was pointing to calmain.exe, which did not exist on my system. Within the event viewer, click on "application" or "system" and look for any messages flagged as an error (red 'X'). Double click on them for more detail and to see if they look like they belong to camera operations or are from the list Canon provided you.

If you don't find anything, I suppose it could be the camera, but as a software developer it sure sounds like a software problem to me.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Mike

oh, ihave Calmain.exe running in the background though. I really can't think of any other reasons for my problem :( except for that it might be a driver problem? Because when I plug it in at the computer at school, the "new device installation" didn't pop up, all it did was notice me there's a new Canon Camera Device plugged in and it worked fine
this is strange?! :(

Is your camera on "playback mode" when you are attatching it to the computer? Sounds stupid, but was an easy mistake i had made when i first got my powershot. I was used to uploading from my Rebel XT (where it didnt matter which mode you were in when connecting to a computer) I was confused for days before i even realized i had to have the camera in that mode.

yes i have it connected and on playback mode :(

i think i might have found what the problem is. When i plug in the camera, it automatically install the TWAIN driver but what I need is the WIA driver. I tried to search for the WIA driver and downloaded it, but now i have a NEW problem, when i install the driver, it says Windows XP WIA driver not found???
so where can I find this Win XP WIA driver? I thought it comes with WinXP though right?

i'm so lost, could someone help me out :(
and thank all for replying and trying to help
