Just spotted a newspaper item about rechargeable batteries which refers to:

"...Rechargeables of the past...lost stored power at about 1% a day. This latest generation, however, loses only 15% of its power in a year and that means battery operated items are now always ready to use".

I use Energizer AA 2500 batteries in my camera and thought they were top of the line but they do lose at least 1% a day, so if anyone knows where to find this "new generation" please let us know....if it really exists

According to the press releases on the site spur cited, they've been available in Japan and elsewhere (not sure how widespread) for a year now. However, I don't see anything to indicate they are superior in any way other than their self-discharge rate. So they won't lose much power on the shelf, and can be shipped from the factory already charged. That's all good, of course, but nothing indicates they'll last longer in actual use. In fact, since they're 2000 mAh vs. the 2500 of the Energizers, I suspect they'll poop out first in a device getting regular and heavy use.

Thanks for pointing them out, however -- they may indeed save the day for someone.

From what I have read about them they are just an upgraded NIMh. I can't see replacing my 2500mah Energizers but they might be an option if your buying now. They are on the Circuit City site and are not much more than NIMh. I agree with Ross if they are only 2000mah they probably don't last as long as 2500mah but if you only shoot occasionally they might last longer because of the self discharge.

Thanks, Spur, it sounds as if they are the ones. In exchange for a little less capacity I would gladly take batteries that hold their charge longer, so I'll start looking for them.
