Li-Ion Batteries? OEM vs non

I'm looking at prices of Li-Ion batteries for a Canon SD and there certainly is a huge disparity in the prices of batteries such as the NB-4L . You can buy non OEM as low as a few dollars on Ebay to a whopping $60.00 for a Canon replacement. Is there a 6 fold
difference in performance? The cheap ones claim to be the same 750 mah but do they hold up for any length of time?
Any opinions ?

Best Regards
Snafu

Not exactly the same battery, but when i had the rebel XT, i got one of those cheap batteries off ebay for $5 or so, and it worked just as well if not better than the Canon battery. The person who bought my XT is still using it every day and that's been almost a year now

I bought a 'compatible' Li-Ion battery for my Sony DSC-P200 camera about 2 months ago and used it ever since, it cost ($12) 1/6 the price of a Sony ($70) and seems slightly better - but that might be me knowing what good value I got.:)

EQUIPMENT: Canon Powershot S3 IS, 2x Transcend 2GB x150 SD, 2x 4GB Class 4 Dane-Elec SDHC, LensMate 52mm Adapter Tube and lots of stuff to hang on it.
A couple of flashes and a couple of strobes. My other camera is a Sony DSC-P200.

Well I also bought one of those $1 eBay batteries too. That was about 7months ago. For the first couple of months it worked fine but now I cannot use it anyone.
I charge it, the LED is green, I start taking photos and after 5 or 10photos its empty. But I guess if i pay $2 for a battery I cannot really expect that much. I thought about buying a genuine Canon battery but those are just too expensive so I ended up buying 2 more non-OEM batteries at eBay. Buying a new one every half a year is still way cheaper than 1 genuine battery.

Maybe so, but they have a warranty and a proven track record of working, and standing behind, their products. There are a lot of satisfied Sterlingtek users on here. I'm another one of them.

Thanks for all the info folks-------
For the price- I gave the Ebay NB-4L batteries a try. The Canon battery has
750mah and these cheapies are 1000mah. Will be interesting to see if I wasted $17.00 for the three batteries. I'll let ya know------

Best Regards

David H,
7dayshop.com does very cheap batteries, I bought two for my Pro 1 (as well as the Pro1)
they were about £10, they work fine and are still going after more than a year of light use.

I've bought lots of stuff from www.7dayshop.com (external link) including Li-Ion batteries. I've nothing but praise for the site and the goods.

no PROBLEM WITH AFTER MARKET Batteries. Got more but pay less. i sugesting you get higher current than the original one! For example: instead 750 mA get the 1000 mA. this will hold more charge and last longer!

regards,

How strange! www.7dayshop.com (external link) don't seem to sell Canon NB-5L replacement batteries. Prices look good for others though. Guess I'll just have to keep looking...
