This shot is of an area of Manhattan familiar to photo enthusiasts....West 33rd & 34th steets. B & H is between these two streets at 9th Avenue. Madison Square Garden, the round building left of centre, is at West 33rd Street between 7th & 8th Ave.

Excellent detail. You can almost see individual taillights and headlights on into infinity. You did a good job of captureing a good exposure while at the same time utilizing a fast enough shutter speed to sharpen the detail. Good job. /Dan

Thanks Dan, NYC is a fabulous place for photography and on a clear night the view from the Empire State Building is amazing. This shot was 1/10sec @ f/4 32mm & ISO 800.

Hi Mike,

According to the EXIF it was taken at 9:07pm.....we were one of the last groups of people to go up the Empire State building that evening. It was a very clear night and the visibility was excellent. I've attached another shot that isnt as good (taken at 105mm) but is an interesting intersection.

You should get some great shots at Christmas time when all the Christmas lights on the big department stores. The tree at Rockerfellar Center is excellent as well (they were just installing it the day we were there).

Very nice Scott,

At first it looks like a shot from a helicopter until I read your text.

We all think of going to exotic destinations to have a good time, but New York isn't that far away from us here in Canada. I really ought to get down there sometime.

Cheers.

Scott,

Nice work - I prefer the first image most off all. I would also consider cropping the river from the top of that image - keep the eye focussed onto the city.

Its well worth planning a long weekend in NYC. We stayed at a hotel at the Newark airport and from the airport it is only 30 minutes by train to Penn Station (which is beneath Madison Sq. Garden) and from there its only a two minute walk to B&H :D In two days you can pretty well get an oversite of the city and take lots of great pictures.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p
