Here's a shot of my 300d sensor.. This looks pretty bad to me, what do you think? I've tried to blow air into it myself with my mouth, but it doesn't change much. Do you think this is rocket-blower-able, or should I look into wet systems for cleaning?

Also, am I supposed to use MLU to clean the sensor? I've got the hacked firmware (unductchables) installed, but haven't ever messed around with MLU.

Thanks :)

Copperhill cleaning is what that needs.

If you've had the camera less than a year canon will clean it free of charge (1 time).

or just the sensor sweep ( http://www.copperhillimages.com …more_information.php?id=2 (external link) )

Thanks, that's good to know.. but I've had it since 2004.

How do I know that some of that isn't on the lens?

Or they will do it for $30 - well worth it in my opinion :)

Thanks! I'm always a bit nervous packing up the camera and sending it off in the hands of the postal service.. I ordered the basic cleaning kit with the pec pads and eclipse liquid, hopefully that'll do the trick.. It'll just have to be some annoying clone work in the mean time.

By the way, very nice website and work you have! I'd love to be over there now.. I think we had a high of 25 degrees today :)

Blow into it with your mouth!!! Jesus H. Christ!!!!

Don't ever, ever do that again! You could end up with some spit / sputum landing on that sensor, which can only result in growth of a bacterial culture and / or fungus on the sensor. And fungal / bacterial growth on a DSLR sensor spells BAD news! I've seen a sensor with fungal growth on it, and it ain't funny!!!

Get a rocket blower or copperhill, but don't you EVER AGAIN try blowing on the sensor! You may wish to write that on the blackboard a few hundred times till it's driven home!

And that's not noise, by the way. It's grit!

Thanks for the comments... They don't have a canon near you? We have one in Honolulu. I trust them more than myself.

don't be afraid, clean it yourself with correct swabs and liquids, do you guys send it to Canon to clean your lenses and filter too? Not that difficult, be brave, go in there.

Get a rocket blower as well.

It will be handy for future dirt/dust and you can use it before using the sensor swabs, that way you'll minumize the chance of scratching the sensor while using them.

Canon cleaned my 3-year-old 1D for free about 2 months ago. Is this because I actually took it to the service center myself?
