I got the opteka battery grip for the xti. I was told they are the same with the canon version and has no difference in quality built. I noticed the shutter button being slow compared to the canon one. Well the rubber grip on the bottom is peeling off. I wasnt happy about this. This week, my shutter buttom on the grips works only halve the time. Very on and off. I been trying to email Opteka but I keep getting a failure. They dont even have a phone number on there website. I wish I gotten the canon battery grip now. Have anyone here had to deal with opteka before and how did you do so?

Current: Canon 40D w/BG-E2N, Canon 30D, Canon 10-22mm, Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS w/EW-83J, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS, Canon 580EX II, Crumpler 6 Million Bag, and B+W MRC on all my glass.

Why would you think it was the same as the Canon. Perhaps the same design.

The molds they used are the same, or made from the same factory. But the shutter button being harder to press has been well documented on these forums, so it shouldn't come to you as a surprise. You should contact where you bought the grip regarding the problem. They might be able to help you. Good luck.

Not sure where I've read it, but I suppose it is speculation due to it being an exact replica of the canon one.

Here is a site that compares the two with some weight and shot capacity comparison:
