HELP! 30D Trouble... Erase All locks camera up!

I have a one week old 30D.
I am using a 4gb Lexar 133x Pro CF Card.

I have taken several test shots without issue. I can fire off 10 shots in a row without locking up. Then 10 more, and so on. No problem.

When I choose Erase ALL on the camera it states busy, the card activity light stays on and the only way to stop it is too remove the battery.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am using the latest firmware.

How many shots are on the card? Remember, "Erase all" erases each and every file separately, while doing an in-camera format simply blows the disk clean. Does this happen if you have 10 shots only on the card? A full card?

It's generally better to reformat the card than "erase all" anyhow, since "erase all" only deletes files, and leaves the directories they were contained in behind. Format gives you a clean, pristine card.

While I do format once in a while. I like to erase all when I am testing exposures and basically fooling around. Usually no more than 10-30 images are on at that time.

I never had any issues like this with my 20d. This is why I am concerned. It could be an issue with card compatability. I'll try to duplicate with my Sandisk card.

I also test exposures, and take test shots to check for sensor dirt, but always use format. I NEVER use the erase function - always format. Oddly enough, I never have had any problems.

With a 4 GB card, you shouldn't have to erase the occasional shot in order to save room - unless you are carrying several spare batteries and lots of lunch.;)

There might be one thing you can try if some setting "hangs up". Use "clear settings" in the Menu.

I don't see what you're referring to there? The closest that I see on the 10 FAQs that come up there is that the camera locks up while taking the picture.

You know how it is when you get an ich? You scratch it.

My camera locked up. Being a new camera I tried to replicate the issue and succeeded.

However anyone else clears images from the card is irrelevant. Even with 3 images my camera locked up with a "busy signal".

It has happened when taken a picture now, and on Canons website is says "if all troubleshooting fails return for service" there are no steps outlined on the site and this camera is a week old. I guess I can try to exchange it for a new one.

Did it happen with both cards? Canon cameras and Lexar cards (external link) have had problems before, that turned out to need Lexar to issue a fix. If it happens with the SanDisk card too, then swap the camera; if it only happens with the Lexar, can you exchange that (maybe for a SanDisk)?

I just spoke with Canon technical support and the agent said that if it happened on both my 2gb and 4gb cards (it did) then I should swap the camera. There are no known issues with the new 133x Lexar cards. I guess I just got a dud.

Thanks.
