Liza, I hope your mother does well. I had some larger than really small ones removed 4 years ago and I was fine, but the idea of a mastectomy looms always. So, please, take care of her and I know I was grateful there is modern medicine to help take care of such things now. She may be in pain after the surgery, but a nice warm bed is so nice. :)

Liza, all the best wishes to your mother, and of course your family as a whole. there will be time for celebration when she is well. It is so stressful to deal with serious illness, but with luck and good care, I'm sure she will be just fine.

Thanks, Suzy and Steve. :)

I'm supposed to learn to snowboard this winter.. not sure if I have the nerve.. You get to the top of the hill and then at some point you have to get to the bottom of the hill and no matter what happens in between you're getting to the bottom...

Oooh...oooh! have fun! where are you going???

Im going to snowshow west virginia for about a week, and then chilling in tennessee for about a week.

Have you tried skiing? You might like that too, if boarding doesnt work out for you. Take a class if you can... they will show you the basics of turning, stopping... or find a nice person and ask him to give you a 5 min rundown of what to do, most people are nice and will do that. And you save about 45 dollars for the lesson.

Again, have a great time!

Maureen, is that your tree?

Yes, Claire...all 14 hours of work into it.

Liza: if it is any comfort to you, we do a ton of mastectomies at my hospital and 90% of the patients have only a small amount of discomfort. Compared to other surgeries, it is physically the least taxing although sometimes more of an emotional issue. God Bless your family & mom.

Thanks, Maureen. She had the option of weeks of daily radiation or the mastectomy, so she chose the latter with the option of reconstructive surgery. At age 82, I think she made the right decision.

ummm.. here. I live in a ski resort town. I can choose Brundage or Tamarack.. Brundage is free because my resort sells lift tickets to our guests so once a week employees can ski for free... So everybody bought ski passes to Tamarack and then plan on just going to brundage..

here's one. it's about twenty minutes from my apartment..

this is the other one it's about fifteen minutes from me.

I'll be travelling to Michigan to see the family. Nothing too spectacular! We will have the traditional turkey dinner on Christmas day, and we started a new tradition of homemade Clam Chowder on Christmas Eve (since I moved to the East Coast and learned how to make it!). We will go to church on Christmas Eve, but probably not the midnight service we used to go to... we are all getting a little too old to stay up that late!

I went to a midnight church meeting once when I was hired to sing for their choir. They paid me $26 for 8 weeks of practices and a midnight performance. It was great fun, but yes. I am also getting too old for that.

We always have Mexican food on Christmas Eve and this year, no different. I may decide on lasagna because that's what my kids really like, the Mexican food was for my husband and me. Christmas we always have prime rib, which is yummy. I also gain a ton of weight. That fattening food is just too delicious, especially the desserts.

Saturday the 23rd gift exchange at Curtis N's parents and his immediate family, looks like it is going to be brunch this year. Christmas Eve at my parents with the siblings and gift exchange. Mid afternoon dinner then off to church for the candlelight service. Curt usually directs the choir that night and I sing, with the choir. Christmas day, breakfast and our gift exchange then off the Curt's parents again for dinner with his 's extended family.

New this year will be our 5 month old grandson and parents will be here, but; we aren't sure of their schedule yet. So in between all of this, I will be catching up on lots of hugs and cuddling.

Change in plans for me.

Got a call from my sister in NYC. She said my other sister and husband will be meeting their daughter (my niece) and her hubby and new son here in VA and will be wanting to stay with me the 23rd & 24th and who knows how long. This happens every year when relatives think I have room and everyone is welcome. Although that is true, I would like a head's up so I can plan accordingly. I have my sons from college in their rooms and have to put the little boys in their old room, but I have my husband's nephews and their families coming as well. I guess it's break out the air mattresses and put sheets on the sofas. I love a good time, but how big a prime rib will I need? I'm thinking about catering.
