Change in plans for me.

Got a call from my sister in NYC. She said my other sister and husband will be meeting their daughter (my niece) and her hubby and new son here in VA and will be wanting to stay with me the 23rd & 24th and who knows how long. This happens every year when relatives think I have room and everyone is welcome. Although that is true, I would like a head's up so I can plan accordingly. I have my sons from college in their rooms and have to put the little boys in their old room, but I have my husband's nephews and their families coming as well. I guess it's break out the air mattresses and put sheets on the sofas. I love a good time, but how big a prime rib will I need? I'm thinking about catering.

I went to a midnight church meeting once when I was hired to sing for their choir. They paid me $26 for 8 weeks of practices and a midnight performance. It was great fun, but yes. I am also getting too old for that.

We always have Mexican food on Christmas Eve and this year, no different. I may decide on lasagna because that's what my kids really like, the Mexican food was for my husband and me. Christmas we always have prime rib, which is yummy. I also gain a ton of weight. That fattening food is just too delicious, especially the desserts.

We have always had lasagne on New Years Eve ever since I can remember. Now though the kids just stop by to see us and nibble a little.

We have the Big Blowout on Christmas Eve. there is some Germanic influence in the family, and this way suits everyone best. so on Christmas Day pretty much all the work is done.

In the UK, turkey is the traditional Christmas meal, but it's not that popular in our family - this year will be venison. Turkeys tend to haunt you for days and days after the event.

Christmas between both sets of parents' homes. New years I'm traveling to Boston with the Girlfriend and her mother for a wedding in their family that lives up there. Not looking forward to the cold but I hear the hotel is right on some river where there is a large fireworks show happening. Thankfully she doesn't mind me using up my overhead compartment space on camera gear.. :)
