B&W does it for me. If a ND filter was used, it may have added some color to the color version. The sky just seems too light.
But the B&W version has a very nice range from white to black. Well done.

Thanks...I'll try the ND filter next time...I think I had on a CP turned to nearly the lowest possibility to get some reflections off the water on the beach which may be why the color is so low on everything...It was actually taken before the sun was up over the mountains...It is about the only time that things don't get burned exposier here! After the sun pops up there is not enough range in metering to get good shots that include sky, water, beach and jungle....something witll be to dark or burned out...I'm very open to suggestions as to how to accomplish this! The "eyes" have it !

Dec 07, 2006 10:25 | #18 Colour for me. I feel B&W vs colour is a very personal thing. Generally, I lean toward colour unless the image really benefits from the B&W version. I feel the blue sky and the green trees on the island add a lot to this image. The fact the there isn't a lot of colour doesn't bother me. If fact, I think the subdued colour contributes to the success of the image. The scene is very nicely composed and captured. The B&W helps bring focus on what's important. *Gear: 5D Mark II, 2 5D's, 30D, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4, 24mmL 1.4, 45mm TS-E, 16-35mmL 2.8 II, 70-200L 2.8 IS, 100mm 2.8 macro, 15mm 2.8 fisheye, 580EXII, 580EX, 430EX, AB 800, AB Ring flash, lots of PW's, stands, umbrellas, etc.

Rarely do I like a B/W, unless it has a hint of color added to the focal point. I might have cloned out the little piece of palm frond that is a the top of the print, it isn't silhouetted like the rest of the foreground trees. Just my opinion. Nice shot, I like it. Donna
