Before you think i am really crazy. I know most of us are no Ansel Adams. But if this man can make a living photography mostly Yosemite, then do you someone could make a living phographing say the Smokey Mountains? I know there are many variables that come into play, especially skill level and determination. But do you think it could be done?

He actually earned most of his living doing commercial jobs rather than from the Yosemite shots. This is not to say however that it cannot be done. A good eye and lots of determination can do wonders. Besides, its better to try and fail than to wonder forever if it could have been done.
And I second MsUmpire's comment... thanks for your service!

I think there are ways to make money in photography in the Smokies and have actually thought about it to some degree but I don't think that selling photos to the tourist would pay the rent. Ken Jenkins has a great gallery in Gatlinburg and seems to do well but does take pictures in other places too. http://www.kenjenkins.com/ (external link) If you are not familiar with his gallery I'd check it out.

Most of the successful photographers I know of not only sell prints, etc, but also get into book publishing. Not only coffee table books, but guide books (where, how, when tips). That said, you can check Amazon and find tons of books relating to the Smokies. That market is pretty well covered, unless you can come up with some new angle.

Thanks for your service, and good luck in whatever you do.
