I saw this one at B&H (online) and thought I would see what you guys thought about it...

Bogen / Manfrotto 725B Digi Black Tripod with Ballhead (Quick Release) - Supports 7.7 lb (3.5 kg)

$109.95

I currently have a Walmart type $20 tripod that is ok by my standards, but want to invest in a better one. I don't have a decent camera store around anymore (just RITZ) or I would just go look at and play with one there.

Canon EOS 30D (x2) - Canon Rebel XT (x2) - Canon EOS 650 (look it up!) - EFs 17-55 f/2.8 IS - EFs 18-55 Kit Lens - "Nifty Fifty" - EF 70-200 f/2.8 L - EF 85 f/1.8 (seems like L to me) - Peleng Fisheye - Sekonic L358 - Alien Bees AB800 (1) - Alien Bees ABR800 - Couple of Pocket Wizards - a bunch of DIY gear...

If you do a search on here you will find the most recommended tripod for general use is the Manfrotto 3021bpro with a 488rc2 head. I have that combination as do many others.

Many folks like the dynatran product from Amvona which can be purchased reasonably on Ebay (see my gear list for item #'s). I'm ready to sell my aluminum dynatran reasonably so if you are interested let me know and we can talk.

I second the 3021 & 488RC2 combo.

My friend had the same tripod kit you are looking at, it was alright (wouldn't trust it with your 70-200) , but after seeing my setup he sold it and bought the 3021/488RC2

Definitely check out Amvona's Dynatran. The AT-858 supports up to 13.2lbs. Sturdy like rock. You can just get the legs(AT-858BBL (external link)) and find a head you like, or you can get the head & legs combo (AT-858BL (external link)).

If the AT-858 is too heavy for you, then i recommend their carbon fiber series. I use their AT-CF994 (external link)and i'm a very happy customer.

I use the 3021 with a 3039 head. Works great, and gets no love working out in the elements.
