How do you setup your 30D?

I just ordered a 30D from B&H, upgrading from an XT.
The only custom function I used on the XT is 4-1. Do you use mostly default setting for contrast, caturation, etc, or some of the preset configurations?

I shoot some landscape, motorsports, dancing and wildlife.

Thanks for any pre UPS Overnight tips.

Robert

I shoot RAW + JPEG, so I don't worry too much about in-camera settings, I adjust in PP. I'l sometimes use Landscape style if I'm shooting outdoors and want the chimping to have that "Wow" factor though.

I usually have the camera set as follows:

Ap or manual
ISO - whatever the situation calls for but use a tripod and get the ISO down if possible
white balance - hardly ever shoot for a custom white balance, but I will choose one of the custom settings (i.e. tungsten, etc...) if situation calls for it. AWB works very well, especially outdoors
metering - center weighted, unless subject is lit differently than environment
focus - one shot, unless activity requires ai servo - never the middle one
continuous - whatever dictates - 5fps is wonderful
I shoot RAW only - no JPEG - I can save all the JPEGS I want after batch processing in ACR
Custom functions - aside from default, I set the second curtain preference on flash and that's about it.

You will love it. I have about 10,000 clicks and not a problem.;)

If you shoot RAW, all those settings like contrast and saturation will not affect the RAW image, only the JPEG interpretation used for LCD review. It can alter the histogram a touch, so if you are a puritst, keep it in neutral picture style without any modification.

Unless it's photos for a paying client, I shoot in jpg only. I crank up the saturation and bump up contrast. This is what I would do with a raw file anyhow so I figure I might as well skip a step. I also switch it to black and white mode with the Red filter setting on at times. The less I have to do afterwards the better.

I don't have time to tinker around with thousands of personal images.
