My friend sent me an email. I am a DSLR guy and do not know much about P&S. What would you tell my friend to do? Here is the email:

"So my A-80 (5 MP) had to go to Canon for repair and they want
$107 to fix it. Or they offered me a refurbished A-610 for $135, which
I think is basically the same camera only 6 MP. It's not even on the
shelves anymore. Or I can get a new A-630 which is basically the same
but 8 MP for around $255 from Amazon. Of course I'm trying to minimize
expenses but I'm not sure a refurbed 610 is worth $135. Know what I
mean? Plus if I replace the camera I will have to buy an SD card too
since mine uses CF. What do you think?"

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I think an A610 is worth $135. I have the A620 and it's a good camera, as was my A80. I think the real issue is how committed he may be to that CF card he has. SD cards are certainly cheap enough these days, and the A610 won't seriously tax even the "regular" ones.

Point out to him that he'll get a useful video capability with the A610, too.
