Those who may be seeking advice on getting into the business in this area of the forum may find this useful.

I read recently that Monte Zucker recommends that to get familiar with the business of photography and potentially break into the business personally, you can volunteer to assist a photographer you know to help them with the aspects of the business/shoots they would rather not do.

I did this recently and will let you know how it works out. The photographer I am volunteering with mainly does parties and weddings.;)

This is probably the number one recommendation for amateur photographers who want to get into the business.

Well DUH, did you need a Great Photographic Icon like Mont Zucker to tell you that. Just read it here first <vbg>

I am no Monte Zucker but you can come and schlep my gear around anytime you want to!! So far I Have taken one assistant to Cancun and One to Orlando and two to Northern CA!!

BTW I usually pay everyone on my crew, nobody works for free.
