You can not go by folder numbers....they mean absolutely nothing unless you are the only person to ever use the camera...you never reset anything...and most importantly, you have never used a memory card from another camera.

If you bought a 30D for half price...even if the shutter were to fail tomorrow...and you have to pay for it out of your own pocket...you would have essentially a brand new camera for just over half the price of a new one...shutter replacement is not that expensive. Enjoy your new camera and quit worrying about nonsense. The shutter can also fail after one actuation on a brand new camera.

FWIW... I borrowed my friend's CF card and forgot to format it in my camera (he formatted it in his before he handed it over). After shooting a few pics on his card (we were testing lenses and he wanted a few shots with my lens to take home) I put back my own card. When I got home I noticed that now my counter had continued counting where his card left off, i.e. there was a BIG gap because of his milage which is way ahead of me... Not much to do for me but to reset the counter...

Buy the thing. Shoot pictures.

If it only has 9,000 clicks it hasn't received incredibly heavy use.

It might need a new shutter at any time, no matter how much it's been used. But in general Canon shutters last ages.

Of more importance is the condition of the sensor, I reckon ;-)a

Not neccessarily. You can renumber a photo on a card, put it in and the camera will continue from there. So the last one you took was IMG_1234.jpg and you took say 10 shots with your camera and his card but now your number looks like IMG_6789.jpg. Simply take a card, copy a picture onto it and rename it IMG_1244.jpg and put it it your camera and snap away. The next filename should be IMG_1245.jpg. You may have to pay attention to which folder you put the file in depending on what camera you have.

Again,

Thanks for the responses. I still have a hard time believing that this camera has 90,000 + activations on it by the condition of the body

The last few post lead me to believe I've make a good decision in buying the camera.

Those of you with 30Ds, with some mileage, where do you see wear from handling on the body?

Try this from the Flickr site:

<snip>

It is supposed to work for the 350D and 30D.

Edit to say, never mind. Does not return what we need to know

Thanks for that info! I'll put it in my info archive for future use, I had no idea...

If you want to go back to a lower frame number, you'll still have to reset the counter. The camera uses the larger of the number in the camera's memory or on the card. It's when the card number's high that you get your numbering messed up.

I'm sure it's the CF card upping the folder and not the clicks. on the 30D, it's not 100 photos to a folder, it's 10,000 photos to a folder (all the way to 9,999). So, theoretically, your camera would have to have 9 MILLION clicks to get to folder 909 on its own. Aint gonna happen.
