Yes it is edible if you want to learn more about mushrooms I recommend David Arora's book "All That the Rain Promises and More" Canon 30D

I just wish I would have had my expensive digital SLR camera with me instead of my little cheap digital. My Canon 30D with a Macro lens would have taken awesome photos of the fungus and the pretty little blue flies that were all over the fungus.
