I ran into this fungus in my hunting area the other day and just had to photograph it because it looked so cool. Does anyone know what it is?

Yum that would be Sparassis crispa or also know as cauliflower mushroom. Yes it is edible if you want to learn more about mushrooms I recommend David Arora's book "All That the Rain Promises and More"

Eat it, if you don't post to let me know how it was then I'll assume it wasn't very good. If you never post again I'll assume it was very bad.

You probably can eat, but may not taste good. In China we have maybe 100 fungus buy in market or Times Extra.

Thanks ever so much for identifying that fungus for me! :) I just wish I would have had my expensive digital SLR camera with me instead of my little cheap digital. My Canon 30D with a Macro lens would have taken awesome photos of the fungus and the pretty little blue flies that were all over the fungus.

It's always fun to take a few minutes to look around and enjoy what mother nature has placed in the woods for the enjoyment of those people that are observant! ;):)

Besides, it doesn't take much to entertain me! ;):)
