Should be some lighting bargains to be had in 6-8 weeks time y'all.

Great. Just in case I don't get my ABs for Christmas I could get them for my birthday.:D

I wasn't joking. I have a 24-70L and a 24-105L. I can't use them both at the same time now, can I? (unless I learn to juggle)

And then if you could juggle while getting a photo of it, I'd salute you!

i really don't know if i should laugh or cry at this point. it is not the fact that you keep selling gear that bothers me, it is the fact that you change your mind and opinion every time you post.

so lets see: you owned the MkII for what, 2 weeks?
you owned the 400 f5.6L for maybe a week?

everytime you bought something, you said that you need it for something (the 400 prime was for herons IIRC and the 1DmkIIn for the FPS which i still don't understand why you would need 8fps in a play).

oh well, as long as i am winning the bet :)

btw, is there a reason why you are going with such a huge light setup? we have tons of people in the glamor forum that only shoot with 1-2 speedlights or maybe 2 monoblocks and they get killer results (of course they have been doing it for a while but still)

I just don't ever want to be short on what I need..I figure too much is better than not enough. I could go with just 3 lights, save a few hundred bucks. I just figure it's easier to have plenty and make it work rather than having enough to just "get by" and have to be good to make it work. I'm no Dwight McCann. I've never really done portraiture. I do want to do it, though. Speaking of which, since there aren't any places that give classes around here, anyone know of a good book or DVD on studio lighting and portraiture?

As to not owning things long, it all has a reason. The 400 I bought to get those herons, but it wasn't nearly long enough. So, I sold it. Returned it actually, I think. The MkII disappointed me..it wasn't what I'd cracked it up to be. The N is just plain lovely, and while it has more noise than the 5D, it's tolerable noise. Like I said, more white specks than color noise, from what I've seen. I like that.

see, this post just proves what i am trying to say. how can you get better if you don't even try. seriously man, finding herons is like finding a dunkin donuts, all you have to do is drive 2 blocks. you went to one spot, the lens was too short and you gave up. what about looking for different places that will allow you to get closer instead of just selling the lens and giving up? what are you going to do if the model is just not photogenic? are you going to sell the lights and move on to landscapes?

as for the mkII not being what it is cracked up to be, you are just talking nonsense now. i am sorry but if so many pros (as well as serious amatures ) are using this body to sell images and get published, how exactly is it not good? did you even try to learn using it? it took me almost a month to really get the hang of it and now i will say it without blinking: the body is just perfect. i use it for portraits, landscapes, wildlife and everything in between and it has never failed me.

I still don't get how the MKII can't perform while the N can. There no no differences in the processor. That's like saying I see a difference in the 20D and 30D.

I'd either chalk that up to user error(but that is very unlikely in your case) or camera(which is more likely). I'm curious what the new owner of that MKII feels about the camera, to be honest.

i think that it is more likely user error considering the limited time he owned it. we all know that a 1 series body takes some getting used to and the mkII was even worse because it needed a bit more sharpening in pp and it is also very important to expose right to minimize noise. i think that if he kept the camera for more than a few weeks, he would have been singing a different tune.

For a week?! Ooh, okay, i thought it was a little bit longer than that. Then i'd tend to side more with user error in that case.

Snir, the MkII was a fine camera. If you read what I wrote again, I said it wasn't everything I cracked it up to be. As for the herons, I found that I just don't have that kind of time to walk around looking for things like that. I don't have time for birding or wildlife shooting. It's unfortunate, but true. No, the 1DMkII is a great camera, and extremely capable. I never said it wasn't good..it just wasn't as good as I expected. The way people talked about it, I expected the "World" so to speak. For the most part, it's as good as the N. The N does have its upgrades, though.

Not a week, a few weeks. Gosh you guys really skim over the words. I wasn't some retarded newbie..I know how to use a camera. The 1-series isn't exactly an enigma.

No it's not. But still has a learning curve. Just because you know how to use a camera does not mean each camera will exactly comply completely the same.

Before I used the 1DMKII, i've used just about every Nikon, some FD mount Canon's, EOS 3, many of the digital EOS Canon bodies. Still there was some learning curve.

But then, if you got it all right in your weeks, i feel bad for the guy who then recieved a subpar MKII.

Upgrades on the N are very very small. There was a bigger upgrade on the 30D compared to the 20D than the MKII to the MKIIn.

and just because you can operate a camera does not mean you know how to use it to its full potential, thats why most people who use 1 series can never go back to the prosumer camera's.

To me, it certainly is. It's about $2500-3000 too expensive to make sense to me.

Have all the fun you want at my expense..you're certainly entitled. However, I'm not dumb. I know what I said and what I didn't. Why be like that and mix it up trying to make me look like an idiot? You should pay your fellow man a certain amount of respect. Rudeness is not an endearing quality.
