I say keep the 1DMIIN and go from there, you have owned every other camera and sold them, what makes you think your going to like the 30D, and this business deal sounds odd to say the least. Protect yourself

Ron,

I've read your posts and what folks have to say about you, you are a good guy. I'm sad you are selling your camera. I almost thought of making the switch with you, but I can't justify the better camera until I have at least SOME skill. I wish you the best guy. Please don't rush into anything too quickly. I don't know you, so maybe I am way out of line, but this seems so sudden, so startling, and risky to lay with something you love so much (photography) and I just hope for your sake it really works out well. May I also suggest that next time you rent? My best to you.

Your new buddy and admirer.

Joe

solid advice. Ron, i think that you should take a long hard look before you go ahead with the deal. i know many people who really enjoyed photography but only as a hobby. after they started shooting pro, they really regreted it not to mention hated the business side of it. if you want to shoot for the local play house than that is great. however, you are in fact putting alot of faith into it and already going out and buying the gear before you even have a gig...

Ditto's. After reading the whole thread, I have to say the same thing. There are too many "friends" let alone friends of friends, who have good intentions and then things turn sour. My wife watches every one of those court TV case junk programs, they are full of deals that go bad. Be VERY cautious. I know, I know, it couldn't happen to you, and I am wasting my breath, or typing, but it does happen all the time. Be careful!!!!!!!! I will say you have guts and you are a gambler. Ever consider professional poker?

Good luck big lad ... better be an ass who pursues his dreams than a genius who sits on his ass (I made that up and no offence!) ;-)a

new bet:

do you think that Ron will actually go forward with that "business" idea?

i got $20 on NO (are you writing this down Dante?)

i think that just like he gets tired of his gear, he will soon get tired of shooting portraits especially when it becomes a business..

Ron, I hope that if you do this venture that you stick with it longer than you have had any piece of gear. its pretty easy to live at home under mom's wing and let things flow like the tide, but there is not much growing when nothing is ventured and nothing is risked. Growth can be painful.

You get pissed at people for tossing your words right back at you as carelessly as you tossed them out the first time. Then you get all pissy when you hear them again. I think most, as I do,find it humorous when you try to defend your silly statements. Think you would be better of ribbing wise, to not try to justify your rationale. Who is really to blame for your discomfort in this situation? Calico, Blonde others? I think it's you.

Go make something. Build it with your own talents. Take a chance. I for one am pulling for you!

wanna buy some calico? I might be willing to part with a serious novatron light kit. its 2 monoblocks 500m, 2 stands, 2 brollies, sync cord for 1K. once of these lights goes for $611. 500 WS of sheer blinding power http://www.bhphotovideo.com …n+500&image.x=0&image.y=0 (external link)

will trade for your 16-35.

Not right now, its x-mas season, maybe at tax season, and the 16-35L is untouchable :)

Well, this thread obviously isn't in my best interest, and it's not helping me any, so I'm out. Thanks for nothin, guys. :-)
