Whatever gets the job done. 5D is just plain lovely. I just realized that I like length more than I like width in lenses. I also realized that "I wanna go fast, I wanna go fast", so it just made sense. I'm looking to get some longer lenses, and I want a camera that'll push them to their potential.

When it comes to low iight Ron...my mk2n can't hold a candle to my 20D...but then again...low light isn't why I own a mk2n...and as far as erasing the memory cards goes...the set up is perfect...no chance to make a stupid mistake and accidentally erase the card you didn't intend to erase...might take some getting used to...but wouldn't want it to work any other way.

For tele and action photogs there is probably no other camera that does better. My 1D fills those roles superbly.. one can only imagine the N takes a good thing and makes it better.

Wool.... that bad? I always thought the improved N sensor design would stomp the 20D.

Perhaps I have an exceptional 20D....but the high ISO stuff from it is superb...the high ISO stuff from the mk2n is marginal at best.

20D better than MkIIN? That's pretty bass ackwards, if you ask me. I just used the N already for a theater performance tonight, and I'll say it did damn well. I've already gone through the shots, too. Looks good to me. Here's a shot from tonight, which would have to be ISO 1250 or higher (only because I never went below that).

I'll tell you what I am unhappy with, though. Look at the nightmare CA from the 85 1.8 at f/2.

Ahh, ok.. I thought the newer generation CMOS sensors would have been a substantial improvement over my 1Dinosaur's CCD. Then again, like you, I keep the 5D for low light work....that camera is nearly untouchable at high ISO.

The "Guiding Light" shot you helped me C&C.. was an ISO 1600. It sure don't look like :)

The only time it really is bad is at ISO 3200....just doesn't provide as nice a shot as the 20D at that setting.

Hmm..I only went to 1600. My dad has a 20D. I'm gonna do some testing tomorrow. Maybe I'll even post up the shots, if I'm not too ashamed.

Wool...any de-noising software used? The 20D shot looks very, very clean.

Ronald.. your turn when you get your comparison done :)

The MKII does have NR as an option to use.
From those two images, its hard to say, because with lighting outside, generally its not completely even.

But even then, the 1D series generally gives more detail at the scarifice of more noise. So it makes sense recalling that aspect.

Time to someday go run some tests!! Well after it rains.

No NR on either image. If you look at the background of the 20D image...you can see some fine grain noise...if you look at similar areas of the mk2n image, you will notice giant gobs of noise on the buildings.
