We just bought a A710 IS for our small camera and I can not get the darn thing working! I put the batteries in (yes, correctly) and the card is in, the door is down. But it will not turn on! Any ideas?

Try a different set of batteries. You never know if the batteries might be too low, especially if they are the cheap ones included with the camera.

I got stuff for taking pictures. :o When things are unclear - It's time to refocus.

I did that. :( And I called Canon, who weren't much help. So I called the store and we're going to exchange it. Of course they don't have the 710 IS anymore (they're all sold out) so we're going with the A630 (or was it 640 - I can't remember). Same camera - more megapixels, just without the IS (which I wasn't sure I would need to begin with).

"Won't turn on" how? The lens doesn't extend? The screen doesn't light up? Check, first, to see that the camera's set to "Take pictures" rather than "Review" (red camera rather than blue arrowhead). Then try pressing the "Display" button 3-4 times, pausing between each one. This will cycle the display through the possible settings.

I have the Canon A610 and it's a great camera, no complaints. Thee A630 should be just fine. :D
