Assuming you want to make a digital copy, you can buy slide scanners that specifically do this but I did not see any Canon gear. I have done this with my Epson flat bed scanner which has a 35 mm holder and back light. Results were good enough. Here is the link to B&H:

Good luck,

Thanks, I actually meant a gizmo that is used on camera, as all my money went on the 30D, I was going to buy a filmscanner but only have about 600 slides, and it would sit idle after archiving them as I am into Digital pictures now :)

They used to in the Good Old Days (it was an add-on for the macro and bellows). But on-camera slide copiers are all set up for film-to-film operation, and work at a fixed 1:1 ratio or actually allow you to zoom in. You'd only get part of your slide/negative with the 30D that way. If you buy the scanner, you can always sell it when you've finished all your slides.

Ohnar now make slide copiers for crop sensor cameras - mount on the camera instead of the lens, slip the slide in the other end, zoom to crop if desired, point at an even light source and take the shot.
Maybe other makers do as well, but I've only heard of Ohnar so far.

The problem with a slide copier has always been the light source to use. That's why I went with the Canon FS4000 film/slide scanner.

The FS4000 has a resolution of 4000 pixels per inch, and scans are so good that I can see the grain in the film in my scans when I use full resolution and full color depth. At full resolution and full color depth, a scan from a color negative - as a .TIF file - is about 130 megabytes.

A "slide copier" can be functional for photographing positive images, but does not allow you to duplicate negatives. The camera does not know how to reverse the image and eliminate the orange mask that color negatives have. A film/slide scanner with the associated software does that beautifully.

The FS4000 has a secondary scanner that allows it to detect dust particles on a negative and eliminate them in the scan.

I used to improvise a slide copier by putting my light table on the floor and setting up a tripod with camera and macro lens over it. The results were good enough for web display, but if I wanted to make a print I would still have it professionally scanned.

However, I found I was using the light table so little since I went digitial that it is now on the bottom of a pile in my storage shed.

You might want to check out your local college campus. Many, like mine, allow community members to use their equipment. It's a simple alternative and an easy way to get access to a high quality, dedicated slide scanner.
