In a thread where I initially asked for anyone who knew this product I was requested to comment on the product when I got it. So here goes:

This is the product that I'm commenting on: -->LINK<-- (external link)
Included in the packages is:

  • 1 x 80cm (32") Photo Light Tent Cube
  • Front detachable door cover with camera lens slit
  • 4 'infinity backdrops' cloths in white, black, red and blue
  • 1 carrying bag (32cm / 12½") diameter
Here's two refence shots when the light cube is packed tight (including all of the above):

Mind you that the side view shows a rather fluffy bag, that easily packs even tighter.

This is the setup that I used for the following product test shots:

Canon 20D, 50mm f/1.4 + Canon 430EX Speedlite on manual controlled fired remotely with a set of pocketwizards:

A few test shots:

I did not mess alot with the setup, but I like how easy it was to unfold and pack away. Just what I was looking for. The first time you are going to use the backgrounds you'll have to iron them to get the creases go away, but it's not necessary to do each time if you roll them rather than folding them.

As for the pictures you will notice a blue tint. I guess it would be easy to remove if I used a second light or a reflector.

This is just for unfolded size reference (and for fun ):

My 20 minute test didn't yeld anything worth mentioning as far as better results than my old "adhoc" setup, but it's easy and convenient.

This is an example of how id did before:

And an example:

Notice the umbrella. Reflections like thers can be avoided with my new tent when using the cube door.

Altogether I'm very pleased with the product.

Don't hesitate to ask.

Useful review olz
the test shots are great (btw they aren't showing"also the reference shots", I had to copy & paste in another browser window and remove the extra/ after http to see them)

one question though, do you think it's a good investment to buy the one with daylight fluorescent lighting setup? - i currently don't have a flash yet

Thanks

Geeze... that's weird. All the pictures showed up in my browser even though there was an extra /? Well.. I the picture links are now corrected. Thanks for telling me Green!!!

As far as your question regarding the lights on his page I don't really know. I think that almost any light will do if you shoot raw and buy a 18% white balance card and include it in the frame of the first picture. You could then adjust the whitebalance in your raw converter according to the card. At least that's what I'm planning to do until I buy another flash. You can get extreamly cheap halogen lamps at the DIY centre. Anyone got any comment on this approach?

:) Thanks, the photos are shown now.

Also thanks for the idea of using the 18% white balance card I didn't think of it. I guess lamps will work well in this case.

I don't have a paypal account & for some reason the site doesn't accept my credit card info- I have emailed them regarding this and hope to hear from them soon.

I you don't live in the UK you will have to ask for a total price of the product including shipping to you place. He then sends you a special link to his site where you can pay by VISA (thats what I did). Shipping to Denmark was about 14 EUR. I recon it will be more to the UAE? Have fun and show us your results when it get there :D
