does the venue not allowing shooting w/o a ticket???

Most around here don't. Especially those run by Bowery Presents that have general admission. Something about accurate counts for fire codes.

Yeah. I see that happening more and more these days. The venues want to see a ticket before they allow anyone in, photo pass or not. I suggest that if a publication wants photos, they should be willing to at least spring for a ducat.

Got a Motley tribute called The Dirt and an Ozzy tribute called Ozzie. I'm expecting no light in both cases but some well heeled rockers from way back when, Tigetailz, Wrathchild and the Gypsy Pistoleros...which is nice.

Muse at Prudential Center.

Found out yesterday Muse is sound board only. I've actually never shot sound board at an arena before. Not going to rent something just for tonight. I guess I'll have to make due with the 70-200 on a crop and a 1.4x TC.

Is a tripod the norm for the sound board?

Monopod. You probably won't be the only photographer ;)

This is shooting Bruce Springsteen in Gelredome, Arnhem, Netherlands. From the soundboard:

200mm+1.4 is short.

200mm+1.4TC on a 1D2:

We were actually on the floor in front of the sound board. no elevation above the crowd. luckily they came out on risers for the first 2 songs. shooting from the pit would have left some interesting angles.

the 70-200 on my 40d was short, and the fact my TCon wasnt working with my 70-200 didnt help either.

sick visual show they were putting on. but once the risers dropped them down on stage, there was nothing for me to shoot.

thats crazy for Springsteen Renee. there were 4 of us shooting and 2 had no clue we were shooting from the board. 1's longest lens was a 135. the shortest in your picture isnt even 200, that was my group's longest :)

oh and that is an amazing Bruce shot Renee. even that little bit of flare looks like its in the frame where it should be.
