Wilco, tonight and tomorrow night.

Have fun, Tim. I understand the shows have been excellent. I missed them in NJ last weekend.

How's the restrictions? I was originally going to be shooting both the shows in NJ full access for the LD's portfolio than just before the tour he was let go. Tweedy has a history of changing things with crew and other and it wasn't because of poor work. No moss on that stone.

i am assuming it's the standard 1st three. i wasn't trying to set up anything special. the show is in a seated theater w/ no photo pit, but you can shoot from the 3 aisles and the balconies.

tweedy (i'm assuming it came from him) just changed the Wilco camera policy, and fans can no longer use their P&S cameras during the concert, or risk ejection. i think the vid captures were really irking him, and it's probably more enforceable to just do away w/ all cameras, even cell phones.

I'd love to see more artists start doing this. Wilco are headed this way shortly and I'll definitely be shooting them. That's gonna be a big week - Cherry Rock Festival (featuring Rose Tattoo and lots more goodness), John Mayer, Wilco, The Cult and I will have to find time for birthday celebrations as well!

Yeah, I don't mind the people that take an occasional photo during the show, but when half the crowd is holding their cameras over their heads recording the whole show it really ruins it for everyone else.

holy crikey was Wilco so good last night. still buzzing. photos were tough (10 other shooters all jammed into 3 narrow aisles (no pit)...i was behind a couple of people in the center aisle and got some stray head and camera intrusions) but hopefully tonight will be less busy.

but really, i could just go and listen to the band again...39 songs! 3 hours! no stops! EPIC!

Perhaps you can use one of those fold up poly step ups that I use when people are in front of me, Tim. I found mine at Ace Hardware and while it is only a small one step up platform, it's cheap (under $10) and easy to carry. I picked up one after I saw an AP shooter with one. Why is it all the other 'togs are tall???

i could have used one last night...not the best shoot. on the drive up i discovered an 'Error 20' code on my 5D2...argh. wouldn't clear regardless of what i tried.

i get to the venue, get my pass and tickets no problem, grab a bite w/ my wife and friend, then head over to the venue. nice small theater, but restrictions are back of the room. damn. i inquire a bit more...balcony shooting is ok. the main security guy is on the radio w/ someone, and then says something like 'not up front' and heads off to deal w/ something else. i put 1+1 together, find him again downstairs, and ask if that means that shooting from the far left and right wings is ok. he says 'you're a professional, you know what you're doing.'

so that's good. however, as I made my way down the wing, closer to the stage, the floor slope flattened, and that's where i could have used a step stool...i'm only 5'8" and trying to shoot over standing patrons meant trying to find the holes between the heads. ah well.

on the plus side, my 5D2 became sporadically operational, and i was able to get some shots in between the Err 20 appearances. on the minus side, the 2nd song for Wilco was darkness...they had a great light show for the rest of the concert; this is a band where being able to shoot the whole show would be great, as i didn't get any decent shots of Nels wigging out, or any decent ones of Glen...i was really tempted to break out the camera for the beginning part of 'I'm The Man Who Loves You' when he stands on the kit, arms out-stretched in a triumphant pose, w/ large shadows cast on either side...it's an impressive scene, but i stayed true to the shooting restrictions.

last night they 'only' played 35 songs...probably about 50% overlap. great live band, highly recommended.

I shot Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars last night. If you get a chance to see or photograph them, I'd highly recommend it.

I'm shooting Metallica tonight at the Telenor Arena in Oslo, and Kamelot at Sentrum Scene on friday, also in Oslo.
