The non-IS lens is back with the seller.
"Lisa II" is the brand spank-me new IS version.

Okay, so what is the excuse for this IS? Are you going to Red Green the IS on this one also? I am really starting to worry about you. Next thing we know you are actually going to start using that IS then it is just a short trip from liking it.;) :D

I should have known there'd be a Red Green following on POTN. Next thing you know, Peter will be photographing his own version of Adventures with Bill...

Well, it has not been shipped today ! Perhaps because they were too damn busy shipping backordered cheap P.O.S. (Peace of Softness) 50 f/1.2 all day.

Well, that might be the case, but I've gotten no word that my 50 f/1.2L has been shipped.

BTW, in the spirit of giving our lenses names, and because B&H lists the 50 f/1.2L as a 'normal' lens, I'm going to call her Norma L. The red L is optional.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

That's very clever, Tom.:D
B&H showed the lens as 'In stock" for about several hours yesterday, and they sent notices around to that effect. Then, it reverted to "out of stock".
Looks like they were alloted an "initial" smaller inventory and/or the demand exceeded the expectations by far.

Petkal..

Did you ever check the filter compartment on your ex?

It was supposed to have a clear or UV filter in there for optimal performance.. I was just reading something about the lack of a filter degrading performance (so much for the "I don't use filters" crowd :p)

The "Lisa I" had a Canon's very own 1.0X transmissivity filter in the drop-in holder. However, that whole issue of the lens optical design and drop-in clear filters for supertelephotos is a bit of a mistery to me. There is one fuction of the filter I can clearly grasp....it provides a dust barrier for the rear lens element which is quite awkward to clean on its own.
Equally baffling is the absence of a dust cap for the lens front. Sometimes Canon's ways of practical engineering thinking, or lack thereof, are hard to fathom.

Dust cap - you should have gotten the leather 'hood hat' that comes with it. Oh well, at least we know it was not the lack of the glass element causing the problems you experienced.

Pardon me ?
What is "Lisa II" ?
What is "Lisa I" ?

Where's that "Lens-Names -> Nick-Names" dictionary posted ?
What the Nick for an old (Mark-I) 85 f/1.2 L ? "Fatzo" ? "The-Big-Fat-Lady" ?

Welcome back, Roli.
"Lisa I" is a copy of the old EF 300 f/2.8 I had for a few days and then returned.
"Lisa II" is the successor....a new (current) IS version of the lens.

The reason for "Lisa" nickname ? Well, a POTN member Lisa brought "Lisa I" sale to my attention, so that was a way of thanking her for her thoughtfulness, even though it did not work out as intended.
