One technique I use with children is to tell them they can be goofy for the first few shots and then they have to give me some non-goofy shots. Usually works because they always want to act silly and then see themselves in the LCD viewer.

I think you have a couple of keepers for your cards... I always do a session for the kiddos I care for... it's my annual Christmas gift to their parents... What works for me is to push the coffee table over to the Christmas tree..... Cover it with a soft blanket and have the little ones to sit down on top of the table... provide plastic ornaments that look like glass balls.... camera on tripod so you can communicate with the special little people, and shoot away.... works everytime. I got some awesome shots of 10 months to 4 years this year.
