I'm always too busy with work (takin pics) to even think about writing up a blog. A successful blog needs to be updated daily to get the numbers. and if it is only clients who read it is it really worth it?

Nope.

and if it is only clients who read it is it really worth it?

Let's see. My clients watch my blog for updates. I update it with a wedding or with an event or with even photos of a trip I made. They forward it to their friends and family: "Look what my photographer is doing now - isn't she cool?" Their friends ooh and ahh over the pictures. They check back obsessively waiting for their wedding to show up. They click on the links becuase they want to see what other brides are doing, where they're having their ceremonies, etc.

I've booked 5 clients over the last 2 years because of my blog - becuase they got a link from a friend of a friend of a friend.

Don't knock the power of the blog. :D

Guess I'm the only one who had the bad luck with Blogger Beta eating up my blog. :(

I'm using wordpress for my blog. Very easy to use.

My clients LOVE the blog. I've posted this image before, but this is a bride as soon as she got back from the wedding. First thing she did was take a look at my blog to see if there were images from her wedding posted.

that's such a cute pic... was there any? That seems VERY fast to anticipate a possible image up.

Yes there was :)
My coverage ended at 6:30pm, and I managed to have some up by the time she looked at about 11:30pm.

Geesh, shouldn't she be partying at 11:30pm? ;)

I am part time. I do not consider myself a hobbyist though. I shot 27 weddings last year as well as portraits and other things, all for money.
My company name is licensed and I collect sales tax.

I also work 40 hours a week at a boring desk job.

If anything I am busier than I would be if I just did photography full time.

Not really sure what your point is???

Not quite sure why it matters, but I earn my living as a photographer.

I was considering this at one point and had a look at blogspot as it came highly recommended for ease of use. I see here it is still being the more popular recommended place to use.

I tried a couple of experimental pages there and the issue that I found was that it was great with the exception of putting your images in the blog. No matter when you put your image in it always put it at the top of the page and you had to drag it down to the right place. I'm not one to try and do this in html. Anyone else have this same issue with blogspot.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I just put all the images in first (usually using picasa) and then I enter the text in the right places afterwards.
