I can't seem to get a blue jay in my backyard close enough for me to photograph it. They always sit HIGH up in the trees screaming "THEIF, THEIF!" I just want it to come down and let me take shots of it. Any tips on blue jays in particular?

Throw some in-shell peanuts on the ground. They can't resist them.

I read in a bird photography book a trick where you put your bird food items on a tree stump or on top of a fallen tree (log) but place the food lower than your line of sight. That way the birds will perch at the food local but the food won't show in your images as it will be lower.

Yup, peanuts will do it every time. The take them off and bury them in little holes they dig in the ground.

It's hard to see how any bird can see such a small amount of food from so high up, also considering if it almost blends in with the tree stump or ground too. I'll give it a shot though, thanks.
