Personally I love dell; but I have to admit; my work issued IBM T42 and now the T43's KICK @$$ for battery life. And the screens are decent.

I'm loading everything I need on my IBM for my trip to the East Coast for Xmas.

If you can afford it, I'd go for a new C2D macbook or an older 12" G4 powerbook.

Have you considered the new Archos? Not yet in the stores (Best Buy) here in the DC area. Their Portable Media players go up to 160 gigs and around $550.00. For an added 100 bucks you can get a docking station to record video and take a few movies along with you. The unit is the size of a video cassette and the screen is 4.3" Link is here: http://www.archos.com/?country=global&lang=en (external link)

$550 isn't really that far off of a decent entry level laptop...

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

No Macs for me. They are too expensive compared to what you get in terms of memory and hd space. (don't compare US price with Danish price).

For the price I paid to get a MSI 12" laptop with 1 GB ram and 100 GB harddisk I could only get a Mac with 60 GB harddisk and 512 MB ram. Also the mac didn't have DVD burner, the MSI have dual layer DVD burner. Maybe Mac os don't need more than 512 MB ram I don't know. But the harddisk is just too small. Add to that the mac in question weights 0,5 kg more than the MSI laptop.

So you buy that one then Tommy? If so, be interested in your view of it when it aqrrives, especially build quality and screen.

First impression.

- it looks really nice
- it is small and light
- layout of connectors could be better. No connectors on the back bacause the battery pack is located there. Lan connector and external display as well as 2 usb ports is located on the right side. dvd is on the left side.
- the mouse trackpad is not the best but that may just be me because I have never been fan of those so i will use external mouse
- screen seems nice.
- build looks to be ok

I am currently installing XP pro so have not tried vieving photos on it yet.

They need more.

I'd recommend Google Picasa for quick viewing. It also can view RAW files, with ease.

But if you are linked to the internet, set your firewall to ban Picasa so your images don't end up on Google ;)

Hej Tommy :)

PC-card Adaptors are DEAD slow. I have a Toshiba 12" Portege and at first saw such a small PCMCIA card with CF reader as the ideal travel light option, but it's just staggering slow. You can get an expressCard reader that should be pretty fast (20MBps) - just released at Photokina 2006: --> LINK <-- (external link). Don't know about getting it here in Denmark though..
