A 12" screen, core 2 duo processor, 160gb hard drive, full size keyboard, and 2gb of ram with a dvd burner and built in card reader (doesn't accept CF cards though)....All with a 6.5 hr battery life. It's an XPS computer (dell's top of the line/gaming computers) so the quality is pretty darn good. It retails for about $1800 or more but if you go to dell.com/outlet and watch their inventory (keep hitting refresh every couple minutes) and you can find a great deal. I got a "scratch and dent" one from them for only a grand and the ONLY scratch/dent it had was the windows sticker was a little scuffed. I ordered a much cheaper laptop for my mom...also a scratch and dent, and also with a scuffed windows sticker. Apparantly those windows stickers are trouble! My niece-in-law has the same Compaq laptop as me and has peeled off all the stickers. I seem to leave the stickers on but if they begin to peel or look scruffy then off they'll come. Rhys

You might gain a few minutes by turning it off, but a big help is the LCD. If you can get away with turning down the brightness when on battery juice, do so, and turn it down as far as you can and still read it comfortably. Even small LCDs eat up a lot of power. I can gain an hour and a half on my estimator just by turning the LCD to minimum from maximim brightness. Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here

Three hours seems pretty good to me. When we're there we may go maybe 2 days max with no power and then if you get short you can just turn it on for 15 minutes at a time to store images or backup. So what you gonna be doing with it for 10 hours on the plane, your annual accounts? https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1203740

Dec 14, 2006 02:21 | #41 Hehe I wouldn't want to use it for 10 hours even if the battery lasted that long. But it is nice to be able to see a dvd if the inflight movie (if there are any?) is booring. EDITING OF MY PHOTOS IS NOT ALLOWED

As for the lan connection. The reason I asked about that is that my dell displays a message that the lanconenction has been powered off if I start the laptop on battery and don't connect the lan cable. So I thought it would save on the battery. I forgot all about having to override that to stay connected (I have a Dell also). I haven't noticed any significant drain on the battery though. I'm sure it saves some, but it's probably negligible. Wouldn't hurt to turn it off if you aren't using it though. Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here
