Some weird vertical lines seem to appear in most of my images. This is a 100% crop, but they are also visible in full size.

Is it normal?

What vertical lines do you see? All I see is a very dark (as in underexposed) image with little detail that I can recognize - some sort of stone lower left and what appears to be sky at the top.

If all of your images are this badly underexposed coming out of the camera, I can understand why you may have some problems after lightening them in software.

I thought it was a view from a plane window, showing the wing and the three lines looked like yachts on the sea.
or a coffin with mushrooms growing on the pathway.

What day is it ??

I still don't see the vertical lines. Can you direct me to them?

They're pretty hard to see, but if you bump up the contrast they're pretty aparent.

Sometimes a filter can cause this effect, otherwise I don't know sorry.

Not normal. At least not on my pics. On a side note, I think I can make out the face of Mother Mary though... ;-)a

Be careful trying to judge image quality from light reflected off water. It is possible that the way the light is being reflected can cause some distortion that may look like banding but results from movement of the water.

Take a range of photographs of different subjects/ type and see if you can reproduce the effect. It seems to be that the crop you posted isn't really telling a lot, if you need to push it so hard on the contrast to see the lines.

If you get similar lines in every shot then I'd send the camera in for a repair.

It could be something on the sensor cover. I had a goofy deposit on mine after one cleaning operation a while back, and had to clean it again to remove the blob.

yeah, shoot some plain surfaces and see if they're still there... Then do a sensor clean if neccessary, then worry if that doesnt sort it.

I don't know if its related but I experienced something similar when I was opening RAW files through PS. The initial process whilst trying to open the file was attempting the correct the exposure, shadow, brightness, contrast and saturation by all the little property box ticked to auto by default. I just unclicked all and it was gone.

looks more like high noise and software error rather than an actual sensor problem maybe a dirty lens/sensor/pane of glass though

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

OK, well I did some small testing and I don't think there is anything wrong with the sensor.

Pretending it's just a noise-problem of some kind, would it help to overexpose? How much? Is +1/3 EV enough?
I have read a lot about this issue with the old 1D, and that most people shooting with this camera always overexpose.
