Well, I woke up early again today and took pictures at a different beach site (Sandbridge in Virginia Beach). It's amazing how a every sunrise has different sky colors. Last weekend the sunrise lit the sky to a purple/blue and this time way different. Here are some pictures, mostly long exposures with my kit lens and 70-300 IS. Tell me what you think.

The pictures came out great. The only thing I wouldn't do is put the horizon right in the middle. I did some pics like that and it didn't appeal to me visually. Try putting the horizon in the lower thrid of your pic. you can crop it out and your pic will be more focused on the sun. =)

Here's an example I just posted here:http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=249377

Thanks. Yeah, I plan on wall decorating my living room in beach theme. I just need to pick a couple. I will be making more trips to the beaches here in Virginia Beach until I have a sufficient and satisfying collection for my living room.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

#1 burns my eyes...in a GOOD way. I can't explain it...but I really like it. :D

But #6 definitely takes the cake out of this series for me. I think it just needs a little sharpening, as it seems a tad soft.

edit: just checked your exif, looks like you had a somewhat shallow DOF, so maybe that's why it looks a little soft on the bottom and top.

I agree. This shot was literally a one shot deal for me. As I was taking a second shot with a wider DOF, my battery died and when I finished changing it, the sun had moved. Oh well, I did what I could do with it. There's always next time.

Thanks for looking. I wanted to stay with the simplistic look and was worried at first that the horizon and water would not be enough to do the pictures justice, but I was wrong.

very nice lighting. I've always thought early rise was better than evening set. Light and environment's different. 30-45 minutes before sunrise, my tripods up and I'm ready to shoot. /Dan
