I am posting this here - it was originally a reply to a post but feel that a good rant is in order.

It was in reply to a photo of kids on Santa's lap. - I will also expand on it a little.

It is so sad but true that the UK has been taken over by liberal namby pamby P/C jobsworths that photos like that just wont happen. Also, get this for a totally FUBAR'd backwards country being fed ex'd to hell in a hand basket.

If you’re from Wales - you’re Welsh
If you’re from Ireland - you’re Irish
If you’re from Scotland - You’re Scottish
If you’re from England - Your British we are not allowed to be called ENGLISH in case it offends...

And even more than that, we don’t have Christmas anymore, we have the "Holiday" season - we cant call it Christmas again incase we offend anyone! - HOWEVER others in the country can and do have their Named holiday seasons and can put up signs etc all about it but we as English (British - after all I dont want to be called a racist) cannot have a Christmas Tree - we have to have a Holiday Tree.

Ohhhh makes my blood boil.

I love you Santa photos and think that kids miss out later in life because of not having it done here.

We actually had a boycott happen at our office this year because we had to have a "Autumn Party" instead of a "Christmas Party". We weren't even allowed to call it a "Holiday Party" because some people don't celebrate holidays! I went... hey, free food and booze... I don't care what they call it! ;)

You're not allowed to call people that live in England, English? That's the strangest thing I've heard in a while. I must be thick, but why would a Brit be offended if I called them "English"?

I heard one Jobcentre banned Christmas in case it offends people that can't afford Christmas.

I also heard of people being arrested for waving the Union Jack - in Britain!

I think the OP has a good point.

The UK has bent over so far backwards to accomodate all races, beliefs, social castes and minorities we have done a complete loop and are now bending over forwards.

But like gyrob I smell a mod smackdown coming so I'm going to go amuse myself in the critique forums.

There was an article in our paper a few weeks back that Wal Mart was going BACK to saying Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays because they were offending even more people because they didn't say Merry Chiristmas.

It never ends.

I agree with the whole thread, In the USA it's the same way. Years ago it didn't matter what religion you were if a christian addressed a jew during christmas he/she said Merry christmas then the jewish person would return saying Happy Hannaka(or how ever they spell it). No one should have a problem with christmas, easter, etc. because they all promote peace and love of your fellow man/woman. But the religous differences have been causing wars since the begining of time and there is no way on this earth that calling christmas trees, holiday trees is going to make a bit of difference settling the religous gaps in the worl. if you don't celebrate it then just politely thank the person that just told you merry christmas and go about your day, why the hell would you get offended by someone wishing you well?

Actually it's not just a question of being a redneck there is some truth there. A few weeks ago my Father was ill and the paramedics who came were filling a form in via a wireless link and a laptop. When it came to his Nationality exactly that question came up, and he could indeed be Welsh, Irish or Scottish but not English. It didn't make sense to me or (off the record) to the paramedics. It was the "tick box" type of form so you'd no options other than what was on it. So it's really not rabid racism, it's fact and perhaps political correctness getting in the way of common sense.

British, Welsh people come from Wales, Scottish people are Scottish, Irish people are Irish but people from England CANNOT be English, they have to be British.

We dont even have an English National Day The people want to make St. Georges day a national holiday but they wont.
