No no, I meant in reference to the post before mine about the card where there was no british/english option.

So this "people from England CANNOT be English" thing..is that a law there, or is that just the socially accepted way? What's wrong with being "english"?

Well if you can't be English, and you're not Welsh, Irish, or Scottish, what are you?

Then you fall under the equal opportunities option:

Please tick if you're....
Caucasian
African
Pakistani
Bangladeshi
Chinese
Japanese
Australian/NZ
South African
Mixed race

I used to get awfully offended there was no options for Swedish or Scandinavian...:D ;)

On the forms, it has British, Irish, Welsh, Scottish but no English.

I always understood the English were comprised of Danes, Normans and Saxons. There is no such thing as a native Englishman. The natives of Britain were the Celts (Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish) and the rest all arrived as invaders, traders and immigrants. I'd love to see a photo of Romans invading, faced by woad-covered natives :D

Im offended that you lumped New Zealand in with Australia!
We are two seperate countrys with our own unique cultures and identities.
:p :p

But don't feel too bad, there was a recent addition to our 4 yearly census.
They had to add New Zealander as a nationality.
Previously there was only Pakeha, Maaori, Chineese, Tongan, Samoan etc, etc, etc..
If you happened to be of European decent, but born in NZ, then you had no option but to tick Pakeha. Which is as close as Maaori can get to "White Man". But it can mean other things depending on context and dialect.
And of course if you were of mixed race, you simply had to pick one, and ignore all the others.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I am posting this here - it was originally a reply to a post but feel that a good rant is in order.

It was in reply to a photo of kids on Santa's lap. - I will also expand on it a little.

It is so sad but true that the UK has been taken over by liberal namby pamby P/C jobsworths that photos like that just wont happen. Also, get this for a totally FUBAR'd backwards country being fed ex'd to hell in a hand basket.

If you’re from Wales - you’re Welsh
If you’re from Ireland - you’re Irish
If you’re from Scotland - You’re Scottish
If you’re from England - Your British we are not allowed to be called ENGLISH in case it offends...

And even more than that, we don’t have Christmas anymore, we have the "Holiday" season - we cant call it Christmas again incase we offend anyone! - HOWEVER others in the country can and do have their Named holiday seasons and can put up signs etc all about it but we as English (British - after all I dont want to be called a racist) cannot have a Christmas Tree - we have to have a Holiday Tree.

Ohhhh makes my blood boil.

I love you Santa photos and think that kids miss out later in life because of not having it done here.

Maybe if you internalized the true meaning of christmas your blood wouldn't boil. Also, if you realized that most religions rely on belief in the truly (and often absurdly) impossible and are frequently at the root of continued atrocities throughout the world and throughout history, you might be in favor of a ban on all of them.

And how arrogant of you to consider all those who don't happen to believe in your religion to be "missing out" by not having their photo taken with a marketing ploy to boost winter sales volumes.

Happy Holidays,

Bill

The option available was British Ron. And although coming from Great Britain I obviously am British, more specifically I'm English, and I don't think it at all unreasonable to want to say so. It just seemed so stupid that I couldn't.

I imagine in your place there is a certain linearity to that set of words that is compelling, like a hypnotic trance. Has it ever happened in actuality? Personally, I would mention Saab, A-ha, Herring before asking such a bold question but then I live on the wild side :D

I am horribly offended you have A-ha in that sentence! They're Norwegian!

But then again, you did that on purpose, eh? ;)

Has it ever happened in actuality? Oh,yes, I've had men say worse & more graphic stuff to my face - in Swedish! In London!
