I just picked up an S3IS yesterday for my 16yr old daughter to use on an introduction to photography course and as a fill in for me for a couple of months whilst I decide which DSLR I'm going to purchase to replace the XT I sold recently.

I've not had a chance to use it much yet (cra**y weather in NW England) but I'm impressed so far. I used to have a Panasonic FZ7 and found that it overexposed a little in auto mode, so I used it in P mode, with the aperture at -1/3rd, for general use.

Can anyone accelerate my learning curve and tell me if the S3IS needs any adjustment of this nature for general use?

On balance I prefer the S3IS to the FZ7, but have to say the IQ is very similar.

Panasonic TZ5 ;Canon IXUS 850; (Canon 400D, 17-85IS; 75-300; bag; filters and all that stuff given to my very clever daughter for passing her exams!)

it doesn't seem to overexpose too bad, my nikon L1 work camera always overexposes, even on cloudy days, and i hate that

i've had good luck just leaving this camera in P mode so far

Try www.canons3is.com (external link) it is a site dedicated to the S3 IS and has a lot of great information.
