A simple image ... is it bad or is it good or is it indifferent and why did you choose what you chose?

Bad. Not much, if anything in focus. No context to understand why it was taken in the 1st place, or what it's supposed to illustrate, so it has no meaning for me.

I voted indifferent - To me the obvious subject of attention is the young(?) lady, but she is OOF, whereas the cluttered shelves behind appear to be in focus, and for me, these have no real point-of-interest to focus my eye on.

I would not call it a 'Bad' image though, looks well exposed and composed.

It also needs straightening ;)

I hesitate to call it 'bad' without knowing what you were trying to achieve, but the image doesn't appeal to me at all, I'm afraid.

It looks like it should be a photo of the girl, but she is out of focus and so it appears that she is not intended to be the subject. The sharpest focus seems to me to be on the boxes to the lower right, which makes them the apparent focal point and main subject, however they are not an interesting subject unless you have a fetish for boxes.

To be honest, it looks like a record shot of some stuff on shelves which the girl happened to walk into, unintended, just as you pressed the shutter. I have had to bin loads of similar shots taken at auto shows etc, where people just walk in front of you while you are shooting.

I've voted 'indifferent' simply because, without this poll, I wouldn't have given it a second glance. Sorry.

nope, main subject is out of focuse, there is no plot behind that photo - I don't see any concept... no idea what u tried to achieve.

Thanks y'all ... interesting response with lots of 'focus' on the 'in focus' and 'out of focus' and 'sharpness' stuff. Hmmmm ...

i'll be the only one....and not just because i want to be the only one...

i think it's great...don't know why, but i like the shot a lot. i personally think it's a good example of properly breaking the rules :D

the girl out of focus is just borderline too much....but it works for me anyway :)

intriguing for me. Looks like what the holiday shopping season looks like to me when I watch people scurry. surrounded by stuff and still that lost, worried and somewhat desperate look. "let one thing jump out at me please- just one thing and I'll be done with this for another year."

oooh

You're juxtaposing the gifts and the sad girl. She has the gift boxes behind her, but maybe all she's looking for is a smile.

Or is this an inkblot test?

The image is good. The execution may (I say may because I didn't take it so I don't know!) be flawed. Not sure what it says, but so what!

Bad - Why hide the beauty in the picture? My eyes are drawn to the girl first, then because she's blurry I go to the clearer, but not focused, cluttered mess in the background.

I think you've just hit the nail on the head Doc - He's gonna' turn round and tell us we're all 'weird' with 'split personallities' and spent too much time being breast-fed or something :confused:

NOTE TO ALL: Permission to repost Condyk's image was granted via private message PRIOR to my doing so.

I voted for "Bad" for the following reasons:

Area 1 - is the brightest large area in the shot, also just about the most clear. As a result it is the greatest "eye magnet", yet for me, there is not a lot to see there.

Area 2 - as mentioned this is OOF, but you knew that. I don't mind an OOF subject if there is involvement or ties to the rest of the composition. Here I don't see that. She is looking down and out of frame. If you would have had the good fortune of catching her glancing at Area 1, that would have been involvement.

I know that in street shooting you get what you get, so I am not faulting you - just saying that if it were mine this is the main reason it would not pass my mental "should I work further on this" filter.

Area 3 - This tray, or whatever it is, is distracting. I want to look around it to try to better see the person.

Number 5 (yes, I know I missed 4 - numerically challenged today) - Is the mid-line of the shot and helps to show that this compositions really has two halves that do not involve each other at all. There is the person half and the non-person half. Individually neither half is compelling, and taken as one shot, nothing ties the two parts together.
