Finally got to try my new 200 f/2.8L at a college basketball game between Kansas State and Colorado State. I was a bit constrained by being 25 rows up. This is the first time I've ever shot a hoops game with a lens longer than 100mm (35mm days) and on a crop camera it's even a bit more challenging. There is definitely a learning curve involved. I also noticed that there's a bit of a lag from pressing the shutter button and actually taking the image on the Rebel XT. Hopfully the 30D that's supposed to arrive this week will remedy this. Many of my shots were focused on the background - I need to get the focusing points under control, or switch to full time manual.
Below are a couple of decent, but not great, shots that I had. Seems that 1/250 is too slow. I missed several good ones because of focus issues - I had the shutter timing just about right by the end of the first half. I'm planning a return trip. Live and learn...
