where is waldo? anyone using the Dreble 400D XTi, 10.1MP 1.6x, 3fps, seams like it would be the ultra macro machine/. Comments? I'm too tired to search right now for all the goodens, I will do that but for now, I just wanted to say I just saw this camera Preview on Dpreview. I'm currious what is not as good as the 30D besides the Feel of a metal body, 2MP and a couple FPS>? simlar feature difference between a 1ds and 1dII. Any complaints with the XTi? any 20D converts? Got an raw's through L prime's or macros' that I can pixel peep at? yes yes I know I'm being lazy but please forgive me for doing that. You can email raw's to me of mundain stuff or unimportant shots that aren't of comercial value to you. I got up at 4:30 AM, it's nearly 11pm.. I'm too tired, I will look later, thanks in advance if you care to email me any raws from the 400D/Xti.

The XTi is part of Canon's consumer line, while the 30D is a prosumer/pro level body. Probably the biggest difference aside from build quality is the command dial control set up. That's pretty huge if you make adjustments on the fly. I have a 20D, and I'll likely upgrade to a 1 series body rather than go in the other direction.

I don't think the difference between the XTi and the 20/30D is anything at all like the difference between the 1DII and the 1DsII.

And not having a dial to control stuff is really a major pain.

Ah not the 1dsII, I was refering to the 1Ds and 1dII in regards to megapixels and frames per second. I agree about the dial, except I think I just get acustomed to what is available.. I could use a hat switch or the fore finger dial and a alternate funtion key along with the fore-finger dial to change options/preview photo's just as easy as the rear dial on my 20D, although it takes up alot of the available space on the back of the camera, space that could be used for a larger preview screen!

I still don't see what the advantage of upgrading is-- 2mp really isn't very much, and that's more or less the only advantage.

I just noticed how small it is. I would have to plaster on an aditional gripping surface ontop of what's already there in order to hold it, and that's with the Xti's Bg. The 20D is a little small to my hand without the battery grip on the bottom, my pinky kinda wraps undernieth the edge, very uncomfortable after a while.

if the 20D felt small in your hand, the xti is going to feel microscopic. even with a battery grip.

what are you shooting with now? xt? if you already have the XT i wouldnt buy an XTI just because its not really a step up from the XT. it only has a few more features that would possibly come in handy, but nothing that makes it any more different.

however if u dont have an XT, the XTI would be a good option.

Personnally, I would have preferred the 30d over my 400d/xti, but, the price premium out weighed the 5fps and better build. Saving a few hundred quid allowed me to bolt a 70-200 f4 straight on, and ditch the kit lens. No doubt I'll get whatever Canon replace the 30d with next year(?), when I have more cash to spend, but for now, I'm happy with the small, fidddley, non prosumer 400d. PM me your email address and send you some RAW...
