Will nikon lens fit on canon body?

no. you'll have to get an adapter if you want them to work. but you'll lose Auto focus.

You can adapt it to be manually controlled, both focus and aperture.

Is quality lost ? or are there any disadvantages?

I have used a M42 mount for wides and a Zuiko mount for wides. If I could afford a Zeiss wide I would use that too. Yesterday I ordered a Nikon adapter since I'm gonna try a Nikkor 20mm wide (paid for yesterday) soon.

I'm on the hunt for a WA with a high threshold for flare and a Kiron 105 macro (legends). I've been waiting for a while now (in Zuiko/OM mount) and have given up. There seem to be a lot in dental (Nikkor/Lester dine brand). Thats why I've gone to the Nikkor adapter.

Both the WA glass and macro glass work in Av mode and I MF.

Incidentally, anyone tried a split screen finder in the 5D?

WHERE can you get an adapter...I have a half-dozen Nikkors in the closet begging to be let out...

Just go to ebay and search for something like 'Nikon Canon Adapter' or 'Nikon Eos' etc.

The interesting thing is that you do not lose any quality at all (you get the full quality of the Nikon lens), as the adapter is basically just a metal ring with a Nikon mount on the inside and an EF thread on the outside.

This is possible because the Nikon lenses have a slightly longer distance between the focal pane and the lens mount than the Canon lenses.
If it was the other way round (like with Canon FL / FD lenses that have a shorter flange-to-focal-pane distance than the Canon EF system), you would either
- get a macro lens, as it no longer focuses to infinity or
- have to use an adapter with an additional lens (something like a teleconverter) that has a negative impact on optical quality
