I really love this lens. It comes with a hood, but not the tripod collar (US$80), which is a drag. If you're shooting outside, you can use a monopod on your camera body, but it'll be front-heavy (but not too bad). It also takes my sigma 1.4x TC very well.
Personally, I suggest you consider the Sigma 100-300 f/4 - it's one of Sigma's best lenses and compares favorably to the long L zooms. It's a bit more expensive than the 200L, but also more versatile. It is a fabulous lens for outdoor sports. I pretty much use it exclusively for those purposes. Unlike the Canon, it comes with a tripod collar. It also takes the 1.4x TC very well - especially one stop down (virtually no edge fringing).
