Long exposures in the Waterberg mountains SA

This was the weekend in the Waterberg mountains 200km from Johannesburg, complete darkness. The trees in the first is iluminated from the light of the campfire, I used a flashlite to colour in the tree in the second pic. The glow in the sky is from the citylights 200km away.

wow that is a cool effect! nice one

Your photos are very nice, and #2 is my favourite for the city light pollution and your lighting of the tree. By standing farther back from the foliage in #2, you've also eliminated the blurry effect caused by the long exposure that can be seen in #1.

I really like that second shot for the same reasons as John.

wow, that "paint with a flashlight" trick is really cool. hah, you should try writing something with a laser pointer. thatd be neat.

How did you manage to keep the noise so low in #1. It must have been at least 15min exp huh? Nice effect.

806 seconds, f5.6, ISO 200. I used the camera's build in noise reduction wich doubled the time
