Ran out with my new sigma lens and grabbed this shot after work. Aside from making it BW i haven't done anything to alter it.

i was hoping you guys could share some thoughts on it, feel free to edit it.

Be gentle, this is my first week with my dslr. Thanks in advance!!

The pic is a bit small to judge :( properly but here are a few comments:

1. Horizon should not have been in the middle...
2. The subject(which I think is the boat should have been off center)
3. The original image seems to have a bright sky so normal B/W conversion hasn't helped it. If you can, try making the sky a bit dark to bring out cloud detail...

All said and done, a very nice first pic :D ...Do take a lot of pics and keep posting...and if u have time read the following thread:

From what I can see of the image, I like it. A larger pic would help, but anyway, that aside, a straight horizon would be more pleasing for me. I don't mind it being in the centre of the image, but as for the boat, yeah maybe off to the side a bit?

Thanks for the thoughts, really excited to go out and reshoot the image a few more times. I'll try and remember the 1/3 rule and get my subject off center. i had tried BW on this as the sky was really grey and washed out, I'm sure on a day with nice weather it would look much different.

I think this type of scene almost always looks better in color, but it's a good shot nonetheless. Perhaps a little bit of cropping from the top and right would help, but I think it's a great picture overall.
