Etching ownership on camera?

I might be getting a S3 IS soon, and was wondering what people did with their cameras as far as showing ownership ("Property of Bob") I know some people somehow etch names and phone numbers into their laptops or ipods. Is there a safe way to label ownership on digital cameras? (assuming the person who may find it is honest enough to find the owner)

Im unaware of anyone that offers etching in a camera,I can only assume itll have to be done by you or maybe a steady handed friend.I had a S3 about 3 months ago and ended up selling it to buy my XT I have now,I had only owned the S3 for a lil over a month and I think that etching would have devalued the camera. And like you said you have to really depend on that person that finds the camera is honest enough to return it.

You can input an Owner's Name into the camera's EXIF data.

Aside from that, given that many digital cameras are bought and sold on the used market, etching something on your camera will hurt resale.

This is a new one to me. How do you input info into EXIF data?

I remember doing it on my A95.. the camera must be connected to the computer by USB, and using ZoomBrower you input the change into your camera.

Your manual will have details specific to your model of camera.
