The team in green (Canyon High) will be representing SoCal in the State Finals this weekend against Concord De La Salle. This was Canyon's first round game against Royal High, let me know what you think :)

Nice shots. The Fieldturf is so colorful to shoot against. # 1 and # 5 are my favorites.

I live about 10 miles from Canyon HS - Go Cowboys! Was that at Canyon? I have shot several soccer matches on that field and it sure looks like it could be it.

They do have their work cut out for them with CDLS.

Regards,
Jeff

Thanks for the comments. This was at Canyon High School, it was a bore of a game to photograph, Canyon one 63-3  I got to see them up close three times this year, I do believe they have a chance this weekend, Canyon is a tough and talented group

Nice stuff Calico, I'm looking forward to seeing the championship games. Here in Illinois we finished a couple of weeks ago and I'm already anxious about next season.

Thank you, I am already looking to next season as well. High School Basketball is not nearly as exciting ;)

Great shots. The stadium must be well lit. I've tried my hand at high school football but mine were not as good as yours. The lighting was terrible where I was shooting. Did you use flash and what lense did you use?

These were taken with the 300 F/2.8L IS. I used a 580EX flash which was powered by a Quantum Turbo Battery, some places don't mind the flash, a couple do. Normally I would use ISO 3200 without flash, but with I use ISO 800 or even 400

The color is so nice. How do you set up your flash to avoid "ghost" or red eyes?

A local Bay Area school Palo Alto High is making to the Div II state final too.

Thanks for the comment, there are lots of silver/red eyes. I just didn't post them here ;) I am curious how to avoid that effect as well.

I've read that mount the flash really high or upside down on the monopod can help but with such a long lens, you will still see red eyes.

Yours look so clean and "pop" that I thought you figured out the secret :D

My secret is to take lots of shots and leave the bad ones out :)

Here is a little bit of "Silver" eye. I shoot most of my sports in vertical position with the lens, camera and flash to the left, in my experiences, thats helps a bit with the red/silver eye. But you will still get some, but a clear, crisp photo with a few silver eyes is not too bad :)

To help with red/silver eyes you need to get the flash further away from the lens stroboframe makes several different bracets. These also alow you to keep the flash above the lens and not to the side which is not a big deal in football but in indoor sports it can help with shadows. The further you are away from the subject the more likley you are to get red eye.
