For some reason, the colors are cold and uninteresting. There is also some sort of a color cast but I can't put my finger on it.

Too cool. (not cool as in "far out, man" cool as in too much blue). Doesn't mean it can't be cool, but in my opinion, there's a tad too much blue here. You have image editing turned off, we can't post examples. /Dan

edit: If it were mine, I would mask out the floor with the fluorescent bias and correct the WB in the rest of the pic. Doesn't mean it has to be clinical. In fact, this looks like a warm scene to me, so I might even pull it over to the warm side. then I would reverse the mask and correct the fluorescent floor. /Dan

Looks to me like the white balance is off.

Green.

The title is clever, but doesn't really match the picture. I see a nearly-empty subway station. What dreams have been broken?

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

2 ways' I'd look to lift this in Photoshop. 1. is with shadow/highlight (powerful tool) or 2. boost the contrast with the curve tool.

I'd be tempted to try the curve tool - in my experience this should lift the colour cast and improve the contast at the same time. A narrow S shape should do the trick !

Use some curves in PS, but otherwise, this is a classic shot. Very moody and excellent!
