Thanks, I cant afford the 100-400 yet but Im finding the 70-200 F4 non IS with a 1X4 TC very good. Would love a little more reach though

If you just need a little more reach every so often, my experience is that the 2X extender will do nicely, even though it is MF only on a crop body. I shot some nice pictures with the 70-200 F/4 L non-IS and 2X extender combo at the Open National Glider Aerobatics Championships last year. I really needed the reach, because of the size of the air field, and the movement restrictions because the event was staged on a military air field. Fortunately, light wasn't the problem at the time.

However, this was a very good reason for me to acquire the 100-400 :).

HTH, kind regards, Wim

what are the prices for the 1X4 TC
it appears the 70-200 F4 non IS is what I should be looking at with perhaps an extender but then again we're 10-25' from these sleds if necessary to get decent pics

I don't know prices in Canada, but over here both the 1.4X and 2X Canon extenders are priced the same, around 300 to 330 euros, and 280 euros if you care to look around, the Kenkos/Tamrons/Soligors in the Pro Digital range go for about 150 to 200 euros.

Persoanlly, I prefer to use the Canon ones as long as there still is AF, and use the Soligor with taped pins, for AF when I otherwise wouldn't have it.

2KOOL Performance , it seems that if your after drag racing shots and want to stop a wrinkled tire ,you will need a faster shutter speed so IS won't help but faster glass like a 2.8.
i know it's even more expensive,by late afternoon you won't get the speed you need with f4

I am going to Alaska in June on a cruise and land tour. I have an old Sigma 70-300 lens Macro(I have had it for about 5 years). Is the 70-200mm f/4 non-is better than the current lens that I have? I am wanting a good zoom lens since I will be on a ship and would love to get some great shots from the ship. Any suggestions would be great.
